Each year a theme is chosen nationally. Students begin working in late spring and continue up to each completion level reached by the team (Nov., Jan., Mar., April ). At the local CESA level, students take written tests in 6 subject areas relating to the theme. Speeches, essays and interviews are added to written tests at the Regional level, etc. The Decathlon requires reading a novel, learning music and art selections, studying Economics, Math, Science or Social Science, and Language Arts relating to the theme.

FFA - Advisor: James Melby

The FFA Mission Statement states that “The FFA makes a positive difference in the live of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” Here in Winneconne our FFA truly strives to fulfill the FFA Mission Statement. While many of our members are in Agricultural Education Classes, you do not have to be in agriculture class to be a member. The beauty of FFA is that it is truly a customizable membership. That means you can pick and choose from literally 100’s of potential opportunities, ranging from Sturgeon Guard to showing dairy cattle, and from leadership camping retreats to public speaking. Every month, our group gets together at the monthly meeting with activities, food, and discussions on what is coming up next. Our organization is active 12 months a year, which includes summer activities like The Ag Road Trip and the Wisconsin FFA Convention.

Forensics - Advisor: Sarah Walsh - Online Registration

National Honor Society - Advisor: Faye Ewald and Brian Perzentka

Jazz Band - Advisor: Stephanie Rahn

Jazz Choir - Advisor: Abby Schmidt

The Choir is a small vocal ensemble of approximately 12-16 singers who are selected by audition. There has been both a mixed choir and a treble choir in recent years. They rehearse as a before and after school extra-curricular group. The music that the Jazz Choir learns and performs ranges from classic jazz tunes from the 1930’s and ‘40’s to popular a cappella to classic Doo-wop music. Rhythm and Blues, Swing Jazz, and improvisation are styles that are covered. A rhythm section made up of piano/keyboard, bass and drums accompanies many of the songs. Some of the music is challenging to learn because of the close harmonies between parts. The Jazz Choir is a fun and relaxing group to sing with and is expanding its performances to jazz festivals as well as performances in the community and a Jazz Concert in March.

Photography Club - Advisor: Lisa Hutchinson

As a photography club, together we wish to successfully allow every student to learn the basics of photography; help out towards the community by spreading awareness of current events, natural beauty (both in humans and nature), and more through the frame of a photo; and to simply find enjoyment by taking photos and sharing the world one photo at a time.
Additionally, we want to bring personal growth to the students with teaching leadership through various activities and promoting a healthy lifestyle with photography nature walks. As a club, we also want to have community growth and growth between the members in the club. A newsletter being offered will keep the community in touch and teach students basic newsletter skills, and club growth will be achieved by having a recreational event before each meeting.

Powerlifting - Advisor: Ron Burmeister - Email [email protected] - Phone (920)582-5803 x3268

This is a sport for anyone. It doesn't make a difference what your athletic ability may be, or even your strength levels. The harder you work the better you will become. The season starts in November and ends in February unless you qualify for the State competition which is in March. Practices are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday  from 3:30 until 4:30-5:00. There are 4 competitions which are held on Saturday and the State meet (if you qualify) is held on a Saturday and Sunday.  Nationals is shortly after State if you wish to participate; every year its in a different place. If you truly are interested in self challenge, increasing your confidence, or simply want to be stronger, Powerlifting is for you.

PRO Group - Advisor: Faye Ewald

The goals of PRO are to increase a safe environment at school, decrease bullying and harassment, increase the sense of belonging and connection to staff and peers, and also self-esteem and empathy toward others. The group “Peers Reaching Out” is here to help others out – similar to Peer Helpers at the Middle School, only dealing with issues on a more in-depth level. PRO students will participate in activities that make WHS a positive place. The group has regular weekly meetings that are held before school, during lunch periods or after school. The overall goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of other students.

Student Council - Advisor: Trisha Buelow

Student council members and Class officers are elected in the spring of the year with their “one year” term beginning at the start of the following year. Students fill out an application, which requires character evaluation forms, and they may promote themselves for election.

The student council’s main purpose is to make the school and community a more pleasant place for all students and faculty by promoting cooperation and good citizenship. Our organization expands student leadership development and student responsibility in school. We are the group that is in charge of Homecoming and Winterfest, but we also coordinate programs to get all students involved in school activities. The council also prides itself on raising money for various charities, as well as, supporting our local community through planned events.

We are looking for students who are willing to be a leader within the school, to work hard, to share ideas, and to make a difference.

Yearbook - Advisor: Mrs. Labbus

The yearbook is an annual publication produced through the Desktop Publishing class which is a year-long class for 1 credit. The class is open to students in grades 9 through 12 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in English. This course will focus primarily on the production of the yearbook using Adobe InDesign CS2 software. Students are responsible for attending a variety of events to take pictures, write effective stories with creative headlines, and follow up on all details to create pages for the yearbook. This is a business product that must be completed on deadlines. Accuracy and completeness is an absolute expectation. Due to software and the nature of the class, enrollment is limited to 14 students.
